met the members of grupo.Brentwood High School saw the birth of the group
Kara's Flowers, a garage band /'' grunge'' which aired on the local Whisky a
go-go on 16 September 1994 (Adam Levine sang with a deep voice grunge style at
the time).
The band signed with Reprise Records while still studying
in high school and released their only studio album The Fourth World in
mid-1997. Only three of the four members were about to graduate. They recorded
a video for the first single called Soap Disco, but it was not successful on
MTV.
Despite being on tour opening act for other bands like
Reel Big Fish consolidated or Goldfinger, the album failed to hit the market
and in 1999 the band split with Reprise Records. Due to the great popularity
achieved later the group Maroon 5, sold more copies of the debut album by
Kara's Flowers, The Fourth World, after the release of Songs About Jane to
previous years. After canceling the contract with Reprise Records, the four
young men resumed their studies at different universities in the United States
where they discovered new musical styles and developed a taste for pop music, R
& B, soul, and gospel, experiences that greatly influenced the style and
the sound of Maroon 5. The four original members of Kara's Flowers remained in
touch and started playing together again in 2001. Jesse Carmichael switched
from guitar to keyboards, so it was a problem for the need for an additional
guitarist. James Valentine, who belonged to the band Square, joined them to
fill that void.
Formation of Maroon 5
When Valentine joined Kara's Flowers in 2001, the band
adopted the name Maroon, changing a few months later to Maroon 5 due to a name
conflict. The band performed in New York and Los Angeles by way of
introduction. Adam Levine recognized in the interim period the influence of new
styles in the band in an interview with VH1, "During the time between the
negotiations of the record, I spent much time in New York, where I was exposed
to urban culture and hip-hop in a way never experienced in Los Angeles. returned
with an entirely new genre of music, which had a profound impact on the
composition of my songs. "
The band signed with Octone Records, an independent
label in New York, with distribution through BMG and Clive Davis' J Records.
In September 2006, the band's drummer Ryan Dusick
Maroon 5 decided to leave for health reasons as it had a disease of the muscles
of the arms, leaving the band was announced by him in his myspace page and was
replaced by Matt Flynn the newest member of the band but the oldest age of 37.
